Often stories required us to be able to move back and forth in time, to offer the reader more context for the decisions characters are making, to bring past experiences they’ve had into the present. But how do we do this without giving our poor reader whiplash?
In this workshop, you will:
learn the concept of “Story Present”
learn the difference between backstory and flashback (and when to use them)
learn strategies for planning when and how to incorporate the past into the present
This is part of the First Draft Craft Workshop series, where we recognize that while a lot of things can be strengthened in revision, there are some skills and strategies that should be considered in the first draft.
These workshops take place the first Saturday of every month at 10am Pacific, and will last about 45 minutes. I’m happy to stay in the Zoom room until all questions have been answered!
